Unknown World

Gaps in understanding seem to come in great leaps rather than incrementally. We are always told that little by little we learn. But that’s not what I’ve seen. While this is true for knowledge, understanding is wholly different. It comes rapidly after removing obstructions. Like a river rising after a dam bursts. After being hired by the FBC, the whole world changed in an instant.

But the bureau only told me so much. A second dam built up. The more I research in this new job, the more I feel I don’t really know what’s happening. What I once accepted is being shattered one page at a time.

The world seems much bigger than I thought. Before I simply read dead letters and tried to understand the minds of strangers. Now I’m doing the same but for the Bureau as a whole. For criminal organizations on a global scale. For aspects of nature that act in ways contrary to nature. What I’m seeing is illuminating.

Access to information truly is the greatest barrier to understanding. If things are kept secret, how can we truly know understanding the world? Or plan to survive it? The more I see, the more I discover how little I knew. It really is an Unknown World out there.
